Coinciding with the 16th Conference of the Parties for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Forest Day is a platform for anyone with an interest in forests and climate change to share their views and work together to ensure forests remain high on the agenda for global strategies to address climate change. Forest Day is designed to inform and engage world leaders, scientists, donors, media, policy makers, nongovernmental and intergovernmental groups organisations, leaders of indigenous people and communities that rely on forests, and climate negotiators.

Forest Day 4 will be the fourth in this series of influential events. It will take place on 5 December 2010 alongside the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 16th Conference of the Parties in Cancún, Mexico at the Cancún Center. Forest Day 4 is hosted by the Government of Mexico, through the National Forestry Commission, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and CIFOR.

Implementing measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems for REDD+ will be the focus of a three-day workshop in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The UN-REDD programme along with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the Mexican Forestry Commission (Comisión Nacional Forestal – CONAFOR) are organizing a workshop entitled “Measurement, reporting and verification, a roadmap for implementation at the country level” from 22 to 24 June 2010.

Over 70 participants will gather in Guadalajara, Mexico to discuss the current framework for MRV and review the needs of countries and their forest institutions to properly monitor forests and establish well-functioning MRV systems.

The workshop will also allow for members of UN-REDD Programme countries to share experiences in implementing MRV systems for REDD+ while identifying current challenges, bottlenecks and data issues. The main goal will be to identify best practices and relevant experiences that could be adapted and replicated by others.

Making REDD+ work: Sharing knowledge on systems for

Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV)

 

A three day workshop in Guadalajara, Mexico focuses on supporting countries in implementing MRV systems for REDD+

 

(Guadalajara, Mexico) ‐ The United Nations Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (UN‐REDD Programme) along with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the Mexican Forestry Commission (Comisión Nacional Forestal – CONAFOR) held a successful workshop entitled “Measurement, reporting and verification, a roadmap for implementation at the country level” from 22 to 24 June 2010.

 

 

Pilot and partner countries of the UN‐REDD Programme as well as other forested countries at the workshop shared experiences in implementing MRV systems for REDD+ while identifying current challenges, bottlenecks and data issues. The main goal of the workshop was to identify best practices and relevant experiences that could be adapted and replicated by others.

 

 

Over 80 participants from 30 different countries at the workshop discussed methodological approaches to monitor . . .
